Let us not make things complicated when they are not.
Jesus wanted His disciples/us to know that His departure was necessary.
His departure not only redeemed us, but it also gave us access to the Holy Spirit/God’s Spirit.
His departure gave us access to God.
The disciples still had questions, and their questions helped the disciples/us to know Jesus better.
John 14:7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip didn’t understand what Jesus meant, so he asked Jesus to do something for them.
V8. Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
V9. Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
V10. Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing His work.
V11. Believe me when I say that I Am in the Father and the Father is in Me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.
We have evidence in the power and the works of Jesus.
The miracles He performed, and most importantly, in His resurrection.
No one can perform the works of God without the Spirit of God being within them.
Jesus and God are one; there is no separating the two.
Jesus is seated on the right hand of the Father.
Access to God equates to Power.
And we have access to both as well, God and His Power.
